IT Training Awards - Categories
Celebrating quality, excellence and best practice

There are 13 categories in the IT Training Awards 2009. Read through the descriptions carefully before deciding which category (or categories) you wish to enter. There is no charge for your entries this year.

FREELANCE TRAINER OF THE YEAR

This Award is presented to a freelance trainer who has shown exceptional skills in managing, delivering, and/or contributing, through training assignments, to the success of their clients over the past twelve months. In particular, the judges will be seeking clear differentiators from other entrants to the Award, evidence of innovation and client endorsement, being a well-rounded individual, and having a strong proposition in response to the challenge "what was special about your performance this year?"

Your submission

You are requested to structure your submission in a way that covers the sections below; each section will be assessed by the judges during the short-listing phase and you will receive the judges' assessments for each section. There is a maximum of 3,000 words per submission - you are warned that only the first 3,000 words of your submission will be read. Supplementary material may be added if appropriate.

  • Overall Description - a description of most/ all of the role(s) that you have performed over the last twelve months; include information on the overall scope, the key metrics, the timescales, and key deliverables.
  • Projects Undertaken & Results Achieved - consider the following points within your submission: how comprehensively were the assignments generally defined by the client, and how far did you participate in the project definition?; to what extent did you participate in the development of the course content?; in general, what was your role in service delivery?; what was the process for ensuring that what you were providing was what the client wanted?; what was the extent of change control within the different projects?
  • Innovation & Creativity - what did you achieve in terms of innovation and creativity on the project - and what evidence is there that it delivered benefit to the sponsoring organisation?
  • Delivering a strong Learning Experience - what evidence can you provide that you delivered a sound learning experience to learners on the project?
  • Post Project Review - what process did you follow at the end of the project and what were the key lessons that you learned
  • Client Engagement - what approach did you follow to ensure that the commissioning organisation was engaged with the programme and how satisfied was the client with its effectiveness?
  • Impact & Contribution - what evidence do you have that the project achieved its original goals and what contribution did it make to the organisation's overall performance?
  • Professional Development - what approach have you taken in the last twelve months to develop your skills - both in terms of content and training skills? What have you achieved in terms of growth in employability?
  • Confidence & Professionalism - how have you developed your approach to professionalism, ethics, and contribution to the industry and what have you done to develop your own self-confidence?
  • Achievements - what do you consider to be your core achievements in this last twelve months and why do you believe that this submission should be the Freelance Trainer of the Year?
  • Additional Comments - (NB this section is optional and although it will not assessed as part of the feedback process, it will be considered as part of your submission). In this section please add any additional points that you feel the judges should consider in evaluating your submission.
  • Presentation - note that the short-listed entrants will be expected to give a 20-minute presentation on a subject provided in advance by the judging panel. All short-listed entrants will be given the same subject to deliver to the judges.
